Who is Henry David Thoreau and Why Should We Care? A workshop by Jeffrey Riordan Hinich
![]() Gore Street Cafe
164 Gore Street Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario , Canada Monday, February 22, 2016 at 5 PM - 7 PM in EST In 1845 Henry Thoreau built a 150 sq. ft. cabin for 28 dollars, twelve and a half cents. He lived there for two years two months two days and wrote Walden, also called Life in the Woods. His writings inspired naturalist John Muir, transcendentalist William James and non-violent activist Martin Luther King. Thoreau awakens countless others to “simplify”, “hear a different drummer” and to “live the life one has imagined”. This workshop will employ the use of song, spoken word and visual arts. Mistr Tahti will also be on hand to exhibit his portrait of Thoreau, entitled “Disobey” PWYC or admission included with a Fishbowl Festival Pass 2015 Events

Story by Jeffrey Riordan Hinich published in Northern Hoot "He stood alone, framed against the forest, looking past me. I turned to see what it was he saw. A century ago the blue water and sky were still tuned to the changing winds. The mergansers and kingfishers moved along the shore in much the same way. The loons called to each other in a language I recognized but would never totally comprehend."
